Otunba (Dr.) Michael Olasubomi Balogun graduated from high school in 1952, and from the Nigerian College of Arts, Science and Technology, Ibadan in 1955. He went on to study Law at the prestigious London School of Economics and was called to the English Bar in Dec, 1959.
Otunba Balogun began his career in the legal profession soon thereafter, and was a pioneer in many professional areas of his life. He was the first Nigerian to receive special training in Legal Drafting in Whitehall and the City of London and was also the first Principal Counsel and company secretary to the Nigerian Industrial Development Bank (NIDB).
He amassed great experience working at great institutions like the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC). He also worked as the Director in charge of Operations of Icon Securities.
In 1977, Otunba decided to become an entrepreneur and opened his own company, City Securities Limited. City Securities combined issuing house functionality with stockbroking. This was also a first for a Nigerian Institution.
As a natural trailblazer and innovator, Otunba Balogun went on to set up the first privately owned merchant bank without international support, First City Merchant Bank Limited; which later became known at the First City Monument Bank. Under his leadership as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, FCMB in its first 20 years’ experienced steady growth and international recognition.
A man of great awards, accolades and recognition, he was awarded a Degree of Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa) by the University of Ibadan and was given the prestigious honour of “Cavalier” dell’Ordine “Al Merito della Repubblica Italiana” which means “Knight of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy” by the President of the Republic of Italy in 1994. A devoted Christian, he has supported many religious organizations, both Christians and Muslims, with substantial funds in their development programmes.
As an author and prolific writer, he presented his memoir, “the Cross, the Triumph and the Crown’ in 2000 and dedicated the entire sale proceeds to the Ogun State Paediatric Centre. He donated over N300 Million of his personal fund to this project.
Otunba Balogun, who was installed the title of Olori Omo-Oba Akile Ijebu by his royal majesty, Awujale of Ijebuland, in 1995, is happily married to his wife, Olori Abimbola Adetutu Balogun (nee Ayoola) and they have four very accomplished sons in their own right.
Dr. Long was the Chairman of First City Monument Bank Plc from 2005 to 2013. Prior to becoming Chairman, he was the Managing Director of the bank from 1987 to 2005 and, before that, Deputy Managing Director between 1985 and 1987. He holds a BA and MA (1970) from Balliol College and a D. Phil (1973) from St. Antony’s College, Oxford.
He has over twenty seven years banking experience, having worked in banks in the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Nigeria. He began his banking career with William & Glyn’s Bank Limited in 1973 and then joined Charterhouse Japhet Limited in London as a Manager, Corporate Finance, in 1976. He was appointed General Manager of the bank’s Swiss investment management subsidiary, Charterhouse Japhet (Suisse) S.A, based in Geneva, in 1979 and an Assistant Director of the London bank in 1981. He later established the operations of Standard Chartered Bank Plc in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1982, before joining First City Merchant Bank Limited in Lagos in 1985.
In addition to being the Managing Director of the bank, as Head of the then Corporate Finance Department (now FCMB Capital Markets Limited), Dr. Long also led numerous project teams advising the Nigerian Government, major multinational companies and large local corporate institutions on major financial transactions. He has subsequently acted as project director on all the innovative assignments handled by the bank’s wholly-owned subsidiary, FCMB Capital Markets Limited, where he is now the Executive Vice-Chairman.
Tolu Osinibi has over 20 years investment banking, asset management and consulting experience in Nigeria and Europe. He joined FCMB Capital Markets as Head, Investment Banking, and subsequently, Executive Director having previously worked for KPMG Professional Services from 2006 to 2010 as Associate Director and Head – Corporate/Infrastructure Finance Advisory. Prior to that, He worked at Shell Nigeria Closed Pension Fund Administrator as Chief Investment Officer and Member, Investment Committee. He spent 5 years at JP Morgan, London, where he left as a Vice President. Prior to that, he was at KPMG, London, where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant.

Mr. Ladi Balogun holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom and an MBA from Harvard Business School, USA.
He began his banking career in 1993 at Morgan Grenfell and Co Limited and worked at Citibank in New York before returning to Nigeria as an Executive Assistant to the Chairman/ Chief Executive of First City Merchant Bank Limited (which later became Plc) in 1996. He has over 20 years’ experience in commercial and investment banking in Europe, the United States of America and Africa.
He is currently the Group Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer of First City Monument Bank Ltd.
Her Highness; the Otunba (Dr.) Kuforiji-Olubi holds a B.Sc. degree in Economics and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
She has pushed various boundaries in her lifetime with many educational and career firsts. She is the first Nigerian female graduate member of ICAEW; first president of ICAN; first female fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management and first female Awardee of Doctor of Business (DBA) – Enugu State University of Technology. Otunba (Dr.) Kuforiji-Olubi was also the first female CEO of an international company, VYB Nigeria Limited and the Chairman of the United Bank for Africa.
A fellow of the British Institute of Chartered Secretaries and the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Secretaries, she holds an honorary Doctorate Awards from the Ogun State University, Ago- Iwoye, and Ado Bayero University, Kano (honoris causa). The Otunba has held many responsibilities as a director of National and International companies.
She served the international community under the former Secretary of the United Nations, Dr. Boutros Boutros Ghali, as a member of the High Level Advisory Committee on Sustainable Development of the Economic Commission of the United Nations from 1993 to 1995. She is an honorary Ambassador of the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM).
Mr Bismarck Rewane holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Ibadan and is an Associate of The Institute of Bankers, England and Wales.
Mr Rewane worked with the First National Bank of Chicago (which later became the International Merchant Bank Nigeria Limited) as a General Manager and Treasurer. He has also served as a Director of both Lion Bank of Nigeria and Intercity Bank Limited.
He is currently the Managing Director of Financial Derivatives Company Ltd and also serves on the Board of FCMB Group Plc, FCMB (UK) Ltd, Top Feeds Nigeria Ltd, Delta Packaging Nigeria Ltd, Seepec Nigeria Ltd, Nigerian Economic Summit Group, Modant Marine Ltd, Virgin Nigeria Airways Ltd, Nigeria LNG Foundation, UBA Custodian Ltd, UNIC Insurance Plc, Navgas (a Vitol subsidiary), and Guinness Nigeria Plc.
Mr Rewane has over 40 years’ experience in the financial services industry.
Mr Ladi Jadesimi has been a Non-Executive Member of the Board of Directors at First City Monument Bank Plc since 1983. He graduated from the University of Oxford with a Master’s of Arts degree as well as an LLB degree and subsequently qualified as Chartered Accountant with Coopers and Lybrand in London, England.
After his return to Nigeria, Mr Jadesimi became Senior Executive of NAL Merchant Bank Limited and partner of Arthur Andersen & Co. and is now Independent Financial Consultant.
Gboyega holds a B.Sc. in Economics and Management from the University of London (Royal Holloway College), and M.Sc. in Property Investment from City University, London. He was a registered representative of the New York Stock Exchange (Series 7), the London Stock Exchange, through his accreditation with Futures and Securities Association Registration (SFA) and is now an authorized dealer on The Nigerian Stock Exchange.
Gboyega professional career began as a trainee with Merrill Lynch International Bank Chester Street, London and subsequently moved to Private Wealth Management in Merrill Lynch Financial Centre (London) within a team of Financial Consultants managing in excess of $600mm in assets for Ultra High Net Worth clients in the African and Middle East Region. Gboyega returned to Nigeria in 2003, assuming the position of divisional head of stock broking, asset management and, registrars business. In 2008 Gboyega was appointed Managing Director of CSL Stockbrokers Ltd.
